By working to elect Democratic Representatives, we strive for a community where our citizens benefit from a living wage, affordable healthcare, equal rights, quality education, environmental protections, voting rights and increased gun safety.

Local committees work not only during the traditional campaign season, but also through year-round doing party building and organizational activities.

 
 

The Accomack County and Northampton County, VA


Democratic Committees strive to:

  • Work to elect highly qualified national, state, and local Democratic candidates

  • Inspire, encourage, maximize, and safeguard participation in the political process and in the Democratic Party throughout the Eastern Shore

  • Promote the tenets of the Democratic Party and empower all members of the community to work together to help make the Eastern Shore, the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States of America a place where they can fully live, work and enjoy the rights promised by our nation’s Constitution

 

We support our Northampton and Accomack communities in

the following specific ways:

 

Enfranchisement

  • Increase voting participation

  • Continue voting rights restoration effort for felons

  • Strengthen absentee voting initiatives

  • Increase voter registration

  • Track voter suppression efforts on the local, state and federal levels

  • Voter ID requirements

Campaign/Elections

  • Undertake campaign support activities: literature distribution, house parties, canvassing, signs, Get Out The Vote

  • Coordinate with candidates’ campaign staffs, assist them with recruiting volunteers, finding office space, communicating with local Democrats, etc.

  • Use DPVA voter data base (VAN) to direct efforts

Election Day Precinct Operations

  • Recruit and train Precinct Leaders

  • Precinct Leaders recruit inside and outside poll observers for election day

  • Set up poll observer stations for election day

Fundraising/Finances

  • Undertake appropriate fundraising activities

  • Compensate Chair and others for their expenses

  • Pay expenses of the Committee

  • Maintain financial records and conduct annual financial audit

Communication

  • Support the activities of the Committees via publicity, using the newsletter, emails, website, newspaper and social media

Membership/Volunteers Data Management

  • Continue to grow membership

  • Maintain updated list of members and volunteers

  • Regularly communicate with members regarding meetings and other relevant info

Governance

  • Hold regular business meetings

  • Assure compliance with Committee Bylaws and Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA) Party Plan

  • Maintain representation on the 2nd Congressional District Democratic Committee

  • Maintain representation on the DPVA Central Committee

  • Hold bi-annual reorganization caucuses

Nominations, Caucuses and Conventions

  • Participate in 2nd Congressional District Democratic Nominating Committees to determine method of nomination for state and federal elected officials

  • Carry out caucuses to select delegates to local, district, state and national democratic conventions

  • Carry out caucuses to nominate Democratic candidates for state and federal candidates for our district when called for by the District Nominating Committee

  • Circulate petitions for Democratic Candidates who want to have their names on the ballot
